Closing Down for Refurbishment

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has approved improvement plans for the refurbishment of the theatre and neighbouring Cartwright House. The theatre will shut at the end of April 2009 and reopen in spring 2011.

Go to Quick Links where you can get a copy of a quarterly newsletter telling you what is happening with the refurbishment, what the drama groups are up to and where they will be performing over the next two years.

The Mitch

The theatre affectionately known as the 'Mitch' has played host to amateur drama societies for over fifty years. The theatre has a tremendous atmosphere that draws the audience in. It's a magical place to see anything from a saucy farce to popular musical. The 'Mitch' remains the embodiment of an instinct expressed by a famous one-time amateur when he sang "Let me entertain you."
