More new and exciting facilities
Facilities in Longton park have been improved through the Greening for Growth programme.
The Greening for Growth programme has invested around £300,000 in Longton Park, this has extended and transformed the play equipment and refurbished the three tennis courts.
The existing play area has been extended and transformed into two play zones one for toddlers and one for juniors which are packed with exciting play equipment. Visitors to the park can now enjoy the fantastic new play facilities and try out the unique i-play unit, which includes electronic games, of which there are only a few in the UK at the moment.
The fantastic new play area also features hexagonal swings, an 8m high space net, 25m cable slide, a ship wreck and much, much more. The area was officially opened on 22 July 2008 the event saw a fantastic turnout of people eager to try out the new play equipment and enjoy the other activities available on the day such as archery and story telling.
The three refurbished tennis courts were officially opened by the Lord Mayor on Sunday 1 June 2008 as part of the Park's annual summer fayre. The courts have new access points, surfacing, nets and fencing.
Other Greening for Growth improvements taking place recently include the toilet refurbishment and two bridge repairs to reopen bridges that have been unusable for several years. In 2005 Greening for Growth invested around £140,000 in Skate facilities containing two ramps and a grind rail; and the creation of a multi use games area.
