Nature Reserves

Stoke-on-Trent's nature reserves are:

• Park Hall Country Park;
• Berryhill Fields;
• Hartshill Park;
• Whitfield Valley;
• Bagnall Road Wood;
• Westport Lake;
• Holden Lane Pools;
• Smiths Pool; and
• Coyney Woods

Park Hall Country Park was declared as a National Nature Reserve in 2002. The others are Local Nature Reserves.

English Nature aims to provide one hectare, roughly the size of two football pitches, of Local Nature Reserve per 1000 of the population. In their latest report we have reached our target and are recognised as improving.

We are very keen to involve the community in looking after our Local Nature Reserves and open spaces. Many sites have 'Friends of ' groups, who work with us to maintain their site, influence its development and assist with finding funding.
