War Memorials in North Staffordshire

First World War memorial at Swan Bank, Burslem

War memorials are erected to remember those who died fighting for their country.

They often commemorate the First World War, which took place between 1914 and 1918, or the Second World War between 1939 and 1945.

Every year on Remembrance Day, the second Sunday in November, these monuments are the focus of ceremonies at which people lay wreaths of poppies in honour of the soldiers who gave their lives.
