Equality and Diversity
We place equality and diversity at the heart of corporate policy and we’re totally committed to ensuring equality in both employment and service delivery. We oppose victimisation and all behaviour or acts which result in discrimination either directly or indirectly on the grounds of age, disability, ethnic origin, nationality, race, gender, sexuality, being HIV positive, domestic circumstances, caring responsibilities, faith, membership of trade unions or political beliefs.
We’ve adopted the Equality Standard for Local Government and have a number of practical initiatives in place to promote diversity. For example we’ve an active Black Workers Group, which has been established to promote and support Black and Minority Ethnic issues within the city council.
All of our people have the right to be treated fairly and with respect, which is why we’re proud to be developing a positive and progressive environment where difference is valued and everybody appreciates that equality is their responsibility. Through employee forums and equality training and development, we’re raising the understanding and awareness of equality across every area of the council.
Our recruitment policy follows fair practice and our processes are monitored and continually improved.
