Supporting People

Supporting People is the government's long term policy to enable local authorities to plan, commission and provide housing-related support services that help vulnerable people to live independently.

The team within Stoke-on-Trent have contracts with thirty organisations across the city. These organisations provide support to people in accommodation. This support could include:

  • an alarm system
  • access to training and employment
  • help with getting benefits and filling in forms
  • getting to know the area where you live
  • having a regular visit from the warden
  • understanding your responsibilities when you live in your own home

The team are responsible for making sure that there are services available for vulnerable people and that these services are of a good standard.

The programme is managed by a commissioning body made up of partners in housing, health, social services, corporate resources and probation.

All documents produced by the Supporting People team can be requested in other languages, large print, audiotape or braille. Please telephone 01782 232123, fax 01782 232217 or DX 21058 if you would like to request this service.
