In 1998 we carried out a Health Profile in order for us to pinpoint where improvements needed to be made. We used the Health Profile and a questionnaire, which was sent to local people asking them about their health priorities to develop our Priorities for Action. In framing them we were keenly aware of the particular needs of specific groups such as children and young people, ethnic minorities and older people. We also recognise that housing and access to health care were important issues in improving health and well-being.
Our Priorities for Action
- Economic development – including employment issues and facilities
- Education – improving educational achievements and ambitions
- Poverty – money and social exclusion
- Environment – air quality
- Crime – increasing community safety, tackling drugs and alcohol
- Transport
