Water, flooding, waterways and fishing information

the River Trent in Bucknall

Stoke-on-Trent has a good number of rivers, canals, brooks and streams. The Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals, which were created to transport raw materials and finished goods for the pottery industry, meet at the Etruria Industrial Museum.

Our main river is the River Trent which enters the city near Norton Green and leaves at Hanford. The River Blythe runs around the east edge of the city and we have a number of major brooks including the Fowlea Brook, Causeley Brook and Longton Brook.

The canals are looked after by British Waterways.

The city has a number of closed waters that can be used for fishing. Look under 'Leisure/Fishing' for more information.

The Environment Agency issues flood warnings and provides flooding information. You can find their website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
