New Leaf

Tree planting at St.Wilfred's Primary School
The New Leaf Woodland Initiative planted more than 64,000 new trees in North Staffordshire and improved 26.27 hectares of land between 2002 and 2005.  Working with local communities, the initiative established new woodlands and trained people to care for their trees.

Achievements included making a health walk at Westport Lake, managing the woodland and ponds at Hartshill Park, producing the ‘Trees Alive!’ education pack and a range of activities during National Tree Week.

New Leaf is one of seven national demonstration projects established under the Countryside Agency’s REACT (Regeneration through Environmental ACTion) initiative.

We are continuing the good work of the New Leaf project through our countryside management projects. For more information about woodlands and our countryside work please contact Community Services on 01782 236937.
