Rubbish Collection
Household waste
All households in the city currently have a weekly collection of household refuse. Follow the link on this page to find out when your normal collection day is or you can ring our contact centre on 234234.
Collection takes place on the same day each week unless otherwise advised. The regular schedule may be disrupted during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. If so, we'll publish revised collection schedules in the local press, on this website, and by placing stickers on wheeled bins. We'll carry on normal collection for bank holidays, other than Christmas and New Year.
Missed bin
If your bin has been missed please follow the link on this page to report a missed bin. We'll arrange for a collection as soon as possible.
New bin
If your wheely bin has been stolen or you have just moved in and need a wheely bin please ring our contact centre and we'll order a new bin for you.
Where to leave your waste for collection
Residents with wheeled bins are asked to leave their bin at the edge of their property next to the road, or designated collection point, on the day of collection. They will be emptied provided that they are not over-filled or over heavy. They will be returned to the collection point after being emptied. Rubbish not contained in the wheeled bin will not be collected.
Where black sacks are in use, these will be collected from the point of storage on your property. If you wish to place your sack(s) out for collection please only do so on the day of collection.
You can help us to make sure that collections are not missed by having your bin ready for collection by 7am on the normal collection day, at its normal place for emptying.
Looking after your wheeled bin
Householders are responsible for the bin, but it remains the property of the council. If you move your bin must be left behind. If you move into a new property in the city and you don’t have a wheeled bin, contact us to request one using the link on this page.
Broken bins can only be replaced free of charge if the damage has occurred during the emptying process by the refuse crew. However, if damage is caused by misuse like putting hot ashes into the bin, you will be asked to pay for a new one.
Normal household waste which can easily be contained in a wheeled bin or sack is collected free of charge. A nominal charge is made for bulky household waste items. Use the link above to our bulky waste page for details. For larger amounts of waste you may use our skip hire service - please follow the link to our skip page.
Assisted Collections
Where elderley or infirm residents experience difficulties in placing their bin out for collection, assistance may be given. For more information please use the link above or contact Stoke-on-Call.
This service is not available if there is an able bodied adult living in the property.
Help us to help you
Where refuse is collected in black sacks, residents are not expected to place refuse at the edge of or outside their property to await collection although many do so. Sacks placed out on the wrong day of collection can cause serious and offensive littering when subject to the weather and damage by animals. Anyone who persistantly places out sacks other than on the day of collection is liable to a £100 instant fixed penalty notice. For more information, please follow the link to our enviro-crime page.
You can help us achieve better environmental standards by not placing your sacks outside your property and ensuring that access is available. If you prefer to leave sacks outside your property, do this just prior to the time of collection.
When making access available please make sure that pet dogs are indoors or are tethered securely at an appropriate distance from the bins.
Please also make sure that no sharp objects such as broken glass or knives are placed in the plastic sacks, unless securely wrapped to prevent injury - for example, in several layers of newspaper.
We have a duty under section 45 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to provide a service for the collection and disposal of household waste. As part of that duty we also provide a service when requested, for the collection and disposal of business waste. For more information on the responsibilities of businesses with regards to their waste, see our commercial waste disposal page - link below.
