Waste Core Strategy

The Waste Core Strategy will set out a vision, objectives and spatial strategy for the development of waste management facilities in Staffordshire and the City of Stoke-on-Trent over the next 15 years. Notably, the Core Strategy will indicate the strategic sites and broad locations for the development of future waste sites.

Consultation on Issues & Options 2 is now underway

You can now respond to questions set out in our Issues & Options consultation document until 24 November 2008.
This consultation provides an opportunity for stakeholders including local communities to consider what needs to be addressed in a local strategy for developing waste management facilities.

We urge you to comment using Staffordshire County Councils new consultation portal available here . Please note the portal is for the use of residents and businesses of both Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

Importantly, alongside the consultation we are inviting prospective developers and waste operators to submit site options. Early identification of site options is essential if proposals are to be included in the Waste Core Strategy because they will need to be thoroughly assessed through the process of sustainability appraisal and be included in further consultations with stakeholders, including government agencies and local communities. To assist in submitting proposals for waste sites, a guide has been prepared and this is available as a supporting document to the consultation on issues and options for the Waste Core Strategy via our consultation portal (see above link). The "Guide to Submission of Site Proposals" includes a pro forma that should be completed so that there is adequate information for the subsequent assessment of site options.

The feedback from the consultation will be used to help us to refine the vision and objectives for the strategy and assess the options to deliver the Strategy, including strategic sites. Then we will be able to select site options to develop the Strategy which will be subject to further consultation next year.

An electronic copy of the document can also be downloaded via the below link and hard copies will be available for inspection in Stoke-on-Trent Libraries and at the Civic Centre from the 10th October 2008.
