Area Action Plans
Area Action Plans are being produced for areas of the City that will be subject to significant change over the next 15 years.
These plans contain more detailed proposals for relatively small areas of the City compared to the Core Spatial Strategy which looks at broader issues over a wider area.
The areas that will have Area Action Plans produced for them initially have been identified by RENEW North Staffordshire, the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder Project, as being priority areas for change and investment. These areas will be the focus for regeneration to start with as it is considered that they have the greatest concentration of issues that need to be tackled.
Three Area Action Plans are currently being produced for the following areas:
- City Centre and Etruria Road Corridor Area Action Plan
- Inner Urban Core Area Action Plan
- Meir Area Action Plan
The Inner Urban Core Area Action Plan now covers areas previously called – Burslem, Etruria Valley and Middleport Area Action Plan and City Centre South and University Quarter Area Action Plan.

City Centre and Etruria Road
The City Centre and Etruria Road Corridor Area Action Plan ‘Draft Spatial Options’ was approved by the City Council for consultation purposes in September 2007.
The consultation ended on Monday 14 January 2008.
Inner Urban Core Area Action Plan
This is the first stage of the process telling people that we are going to produce an Area Action Plan for the Inner Urban Core area of the city and inviting people to get involved at this early stage.
The Inner Urban Core Area Action Plan will include the Burslem, Etruria Valley and Middleport and City Centre South and University Quarter Area Action Plans and is extended to include parts of Cobridge, Northwood and Stoke.
This Area Action Plan aims to ensure that the centre of the city of Stoke-on-Trent benefits positively from regeneration and is a priority for transformational change. Its purpose is to create attractive, vibrant and sustainable communities in the centre of the city.
The Area Action Plan will deal with things such as where new housing should be built within the Inner Urban Core area; where housing renewal areas will be; identifying how existing and new employment areas could be improved and developed; identifying where local shops and services should be located and where transport improvements should take place.
Consultation on the commencement of the Inner Urban Core Area Action Plan ended on the 21 May 2007.
Meir
The Meir Area Action Plan will provide detailed planning guidance for the regeneration of the Meir council estate and district centre.
