Local Development Framework

A new act has changed how we plan for the future of Stoke-on-Trent.  It replaces the old system, which included the Structure Plan and City Local Plan 2001 with a new system of Local Development Documents.

The Local Development Framework must be prepared in line with the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy (external site - opens in new window). This document is itself subject to partial revision. Local Development Scheme

The Local Development Scheme is a public statement of the council’s three year work programme to produce the Local Development Framework.  It sets out:

• details of the Local Development Documents to be prepared that will make up the new framework;
• the subject and area covered by each of the documents; and
• a timetable to prepare, revise and adopt the new plans.

Saved Policies (Updated 27 September 2007)

The City Plan 2001 was adopted in September 1993. The Plan will eventually be replaced by documents in the new Local Development Framework. In the meantime the policies and proposals that are still relevant have been 'saved'.

On 7 September 2007 the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government issued a formal direction saving a limited number of plan policies. - Follow this link to see the Formal Direction Notices and Policy Schedules (.pdf)(246kb). 5 Year Housing Land Supply - Technical paper produced in January 2008 analysing committed housing development sites and demonstrating our 5 year supply of sites for housing development. Includes a list of all sites with remaining capacity for 10 or more dwellings.
