Poor air quality affects your health, especially if you have breathing difficulties or suffer with heart trouble.
By law the city council must monitor and report on air quality and take action to improve it. We monitor air quality all around the city, especially in areas where higher pollution levels are expected.
We have now written our latest report which shows there are several areas of the city where high levels of nitrogen dioxide have been recorded.
In April
2006 the
city council
declared the
whole city
an air
quality management
area. We
are now
working with
local authority
partners, such
as the
Highways Agency on
an action plan
to reduce
pollution below
the guidance
levels.
Consultation
This is
very important. The
city council
and its
partners have
consulted with
organisations and
agencies, and
most importantly
the general
public, to
help agree
an action
plan to
improve the
air quality
in Stoke-on-Trent.
