Introduction to Greening for Growth

Greening for Growth is a programme of environmental improvement for North Staffordshire and is the largest environmental regeneration programme in the West Midlands.

The programme aims to improve the area to:

  • make it more attractive to investors and visitors;
  • improve the quality of life for residents; and
  • restore community pride.

The focus of Greening for Growth is on physical environmental improvements in key locations. The programme will create or upgrade 28 kilometers of green routes. Work around main transport routes will improve visitor opinions and encourage investment in the city.

Greening for Growth is creating:

  • A landscape to be proud of where major transport routes and developments are set in interesting, high quality landscapes.
  • Well used and maintained landmark parks that offer more leisure opportunities and attract visitors to the area.
  • A North Staffordshire network of safe, attractive off-road routes for pedestrians and cyclists. Canals, rivers and disused railways will link green spaces with homes, work places and leisure facilities.

So far...
Substantial environmental benefits have been achieved:

  • almost 42 hectares of Brownfield land has been improved;
  • seven greenways have been completed;
  • significant tree planting and aesthetic improvements have been achieved; and
  • several parks have been transformed into exciting attractions.
