Demolition
If you are planning to demolish a building you will, in most cases, need to tell the city council.
We do not need to be told if it is:
- an internal part of an occupied building;
- an agricultural building (unless it is attached to a non-agricultural building);
- a building that has a cubic content of not more than 1,750 cubic feet (measured externally);
- a greenhouse, conservatory, shed or prefabricated garage that forms part of a larger building; or
- a demolition which is part of a clearance order.
You can us by downloading, completing and signing the Section 80 form at the bottom of the screen. To view this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
When you send the Section 80 form you will need to attach:
- a location plan;
- a block plan that shows the site clearly; and
- a statement of the extent of the planned demolition.
Please send it to:
- Fax: 01782 236345; or
- Building

When we have received the form an officer will visit the site before demolition works begin. We will tell our Land and Property and Development Control sections about the proposed demolition. We may also, depending on the situation, let neighbouring properties, the Health and Safety Executive, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and the utility companies know.
We will send you a Section 81 notice within six weeks. This will detail any conditions which apply to the demolition of the property.
