Energy conservation

Energy conservation is about trying to reduce the amount of energy we use and investigating the opportunities for using renewable energy sources like wind, wave and solar power.

Think about how you could reduce your energy use.

  • Could you make a couple of journeys a week by bus instead of by car?
  • Could you add solar panels to your house?
  • What about using a solar powered fountain in your garden pond rather than an electric one?
  • Could you swap some of your lightbulbs for energy efficient ones?
  • Perhaps you could register for a green energy tariff with your electricity supplier. Green energy tariffs use renewable energy sources like wind, wave and solar in the generation of power rather than burning coal.
  • Could you use biodiesel in your car rather than normal diesel? Biodiesel is made from plant crops which absorb carbon dioxide as they grow. The amount of CO2 absorbed is equal to the amount put out when the car runs.
  • If you are buying a new car, is a petrol / electricity hybrid an option?
