Special School Outreach

Special School Outreach Teacher supporting a pupil in a mainstream school

Outreach Support from Special Schools for the 2008/09 academic year

Three different types of special school outreach are available to mainstream schools in the city. These are:

  • SLA Generic / Core support  This type of support is available from the moderate learning difficulty special schools only. With this provision, the special school outreach teachers will be supported by the special educational needs support service. The schools taking part in this initiative for the 2008/2009 academic year have already been identified.
  • Packages of Support  A number of different packages of support are now available from each special school. Please click on to the related link "Special School Outreach: packages of support" to find out what is on offer. To request a package of support, please contact the Inclusion Support Officer, John Roberts, on (23)2835.
  • Specialist Support  Special School Specialist teachers are now able to help the special educational needs support service in the delivery of specialist advice for individual pupils in mainstream settings. Specialist support is available in the following areas of special educational need:
    • ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorder;
    • SPLD - Specific Learning Difficulty;
    • SLCN - Speech, Language or Communication Difficulties;
    • PD - Physical Disability.
