Applying for a place in secondary education is a big step in a child’s life. These are exciting times for secondary
education in the city. Stoke-on-Trent’s family of schools and academies are working together to improve standards and
increase opportunities for pupils studying in the city. There is a variety of school types, each with its own ethos and identity.
Our secondary schools are comprehensive and cater for both boys and girls. This means that they accept children
of all abilities and no child is offered or refused a place on the basis of general level of ability. The only exception to
this is St. Joseph’s Catholic College, which is a selective school.
Every secondary and special school in
the city will benefit from a total £250m investment from our Building Schools
for the Future programme. The programme includes 13 secondary schools and academies which will have buildings rebuilt
or refurbished by January 2014.
