Today the work environment is highly competitive. It is vital that everyone has the education, qualifications and skills needed for success. Thriving businesses will regenerate the city's economy for everyone's benefit, with a skilled and motivated workforce behind them.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is responsible for education services. Everyone: children, young people and adults in the city can access the education and training they need with support from education providers, the voluntary sector and others.
A large amount of money is being invested in re-building, modernising and refurbishing schools in Stoke-on-Trent. This is possible thanks to a £153 million Private Finance Scheme - the largest in England, and funding of around £200 million secured in principle, through Building Schools for the Future.
A wide range of Internet based tools are being developed by the Directorate of Children and Young People's Services. These aid learning and are tailored to meet the needs of key groups in the education community. The tools provide access to links, downloadable resources and guidance, and are supported by SCORE (Stoke-on-Trent Community Online Resources for Education), the City Council's Learning Portal.
