General help on using the website

Searching can be easy

Menu on the left:

Navigate through the menu, which lists the subjects in the section where you are, followed by the main Categories or themes in the website.

  • Click on the topic nearest to what you want.
  • Choose from the menu on the new page.
  • Drill down until you find what you want.
  • Or choose from the related pages in the righthand panel.

Navigation Bar at the top of the page:

A to Z

Choose the first letter of the subject that you want and then browse the subjects beginning with that letter. Click on the subject to go to the page.

Directory

Browse the categories or themes, and the subjects covered by each. Clicking on a subject takes you to the relevant page.

Online services

Access the links to all the council's online services that you can use directly from your PC.

Sitemap

View the layout of the site and choose from the clickable links to each area.

Simple search

Use the search box, on the right of the top menu bar, to find specific information. Type a word or short phrase in lower case or capitals and click on the search button. Choose the most relevant pages from the search results.

Simple search checks all the text on all the pages in the website. If you search for very common words or phrases, you may get some unexpected results.

Advanced search

The Advanced Search allows you to set options which target your search more accurately:

  • one or more content types (such as press release, job advertisement, event and legal notice)
  • one or more categories or themes (hold down the Ctrl key to click on more than one theme)
