Lord Mayor's 80th Anniversary

Thomas Clarke Wild, the First Lord Mayor of the City of Stoke-on-TrentDerek Capey, the current Lord Mayor of the City of Stoke-on-Trent
  • In 1922, King George V conferred upon Stoke-on-Trent City the status of City, by Royal Letters Patent
  • Three years later, on 10 July 1928, the city was given permission to use the title of Lord Mayor
  • The title of Lord Mayor was first conferred on the Chief Magistrate, Thomas Clarke Wild
  • Every year since that date, the City Council has appointed a new Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor to serve the city for the term of one Municipal Year
  • The Lord Mayor for this anniversary year is Councillor Derek Capey
  • The Deputy Lord Mayor for this anniversary year is Councillor Jean Bowers
  • Serving city councillors who have also been Lord Mayor are Councillor Bagh Ali (2007/08), Councillor Jean Edwards (2006/07) and Councillor Clive Brian (2003/04)
