Called-In Decisions
Executive decisions (with the exception of day-to-day matters) can be "called-in" if an elected member has concerns about a particular item. All decisions made are "provisional" for seven days and are published fortnightly.
Any elected member can "call-in" a decison by obtaining the signatures of at least five other elected members. The Leader of a political group consisting of six or more members of the City Council can also "call-in" a decision.
A "called-in" decision is not processed but referred instead to the appropriate Overview and Scrutiny Committee who can either confirm, or suggest alternatives to, the decision being taken. The relevant Chief Officer then has ten days to decide whether to process the original decision or to take into account the Committee's views.
