Your Question Time

Your Question Time

"...and I want to know what the council is going to do about it!"

So why not ask us? Every six weeks at the ordinary meetings of full council You can submit your question to either the elected mayor or council manager.

“Your Question Time” takes place at the beginning of the council meeting and anyone who lives or works in the city can ask the council’s executive (the elected mayor or council manager) up to two questions.

What questions can I ask?

You can ask questions about any service or issue for which the city council is responsible or on an issue that affects the Stoke-on-Trent area. If your question requires that we give you confidential information or repeats something that has been asked and answered within the past six months we will contact you. Questions must not insult people or waste time. At recent council meetings questions have been asked on:

  • Parking and Security;
  • By-laws (re: litter);
  • The City Council's governance arrangements; and
  • Elderly care

How do I submit my Question?

You can send us your question by either:

When do I submit my question?

You can send us a question at any time and when we have received your question we will write to you to tell when your question will be answered. As long as it is received by 12 pm ten clear working days before the council meeting is held, and contains no more than 150 words, it will be asked at the next council meeting.

What happens at the meeting?

When you arrive at the Council meeting to ask your question, staff from the Member Services (Chief Executive's Directorate) will be available to explain what happens to you and give you any help you may need. If you cannot attend the council meeting you will receive a written reply to your question.
