Chief Executive

Steve Robinson - our Council Manager and Chief Executive Officer

Stoke-on-Trent's Chief Executive is Steve Robinson.  He works alongside the elected Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent to form the executive.  The executive is the major decision-making body of the Council.  Day to day decisions will be made by senior council officers responsible for services.

He took over as Council Manager and Chief Executive Officer in October 2006.  Before that he was our Director of Community and Adult Services.

He is leading the council to refocus its activities on both driving forward and supporting the regeneration of Stoke-on-Trent.  He is particularly keen to empower and motivate both colleagues in the council and people who live in the city's communities.

Steve was previously Chief Executive of the Bloxwich Housing Trust in the West Midlands, Assistant Director of Housing and Regeneration at Liverpool City Council and worked in a number of local authorities throughout the West Midlands.

Steve's vision for the city council is to achieve three things:

  • one city;
  • one council; and
  • one ambition - to deliver excellent services.

One city
We'll bring together all our partners to regenerate the city to be a great city - creating jobs, attracting visitors and delivering quality housing, leisure and retail facilities.

One council
Everyone in the council will work together.  There'll be more consultation, better understanding and improved communication.

One ambition
This authority will be an excellent authority where things are done well and where we are an example to others.  Steve plans to make sure we take major steps forward with improved performance, higher customer satisfaction and much greater value for money.

Steve's aim is to strive for excellence in everything we do. Some of our services are beacons of good practice and excellent customer service.  We will learn from the best, share that good practice and success to make sure we deliver all our services to the highest standards.

The 60 councillors elected by the public still have an important role to play, scrutinising decisions made.  Visit the councillors link to find out who is representing your area or ward.
