Longton public space protection order

New order for Longton aims to make the town centre a better place to live, work and shop.

New powers come into effect on Monday, 3 October 2016 aimed at curbing street drinking and antisocial behaviour in Longton town centre.

The introduction of a Public Space Protection Order follows on from a consultation exercise held earlier in the year in the town which saw almost all respondents say they wanted an order put in place.
Recent years have seen the town centre area in Longton become an area where antisocial behaviour and street drinking has increased, with residents, shoppers and people working in the town being disturbed by swearing, fighting and aggressive or threatening behaviour.

The new order could see people being issued with fixed penalty notices, prosecuted or have a Criminal Behaviour Order imposed on them.
