Crime Shorts Showcased in StaffordshireYoung people completing the Intensive Supervision and Surveillance
Programme in Stoke-on-Trent have been taking part in making short films with a local media artist in an Arts Council-funded
project.
The project has run for 12 weeks at the weekend and the young people have made their own films by script writing,
filming, directing and editing. There are three short films in total and the focus for each has been different. The first
looks at the effects of offending on victims and families of young people who commit crime. The second examines the effect
of crime on the community while the third seeks the views of the public on improvements needed to local services.
The
films were showcased at the Staffordshire University Film Theatre on 2 May. The event was supported by the Police, Staffordshire
University, Unity Training Academy and the Arts Council.
The Project manager for the programme of Stoke-on-Trent Youth
Offending Services said:
"The project has been very successful, with one young person going on to gain a full-time
college course in film and media. In addition, another young person has been offered the opportunity to work alongside the
artist from the programme on future projects."
