Maps of the city
We have a vast store of maps of the city at various scales and dates. Most of it is used under a licence with the Ordnance Survey and there are strict conditions covering its use.
Most modern maps are supplied in electronic format (digital maps) so that they can be viewed by a computer and printed out if necessary.
Maps can be made available to you for the following:
Planning and building regulations applications: Location plans are available to accompany applications for planning permission or building regulations approval. These are available from the Civic Centre in Stoke. A charge will made for this service. For more details and prices phone 01782 232000 or e-mail det@stoke.gov.uk
Personal and leisure: Your local library will usually have paper copies in stock for you to look at. They have also have a special fair dealing licence with the Ordnance Survey that allows you to obtain an A4 photocopy of an area for a small administrative charge.
Formal education: Those in full time grant maintained schools are entitled to use the current maps, preferably obtained from their school. University students may ask for mapping to undertake specific studies, however there will be restrictions put upon its use.
There are some Ordnance Survey maps that we own and are at liberty to copy, sell or give away. These are usually of historic origin and are over 50 years old: 1880, 1900, 1924, 1937, 1950. For more details and prices phone 01782 236196 or e-mail det@stoke.gov.uk
