Community Arts - War Memorial Project

Renovated Victorian Shelter in Tunstall Memorial Gardens
The Community Arts Officer has been working in partnership with Millennium Volunteers, REC (Racial Equality Council) and Tunstall Youth Group in an area of the city experiencing racial tensions.
Tunstall Youth Group, made up of mostly young BME’s (Black Minority Ethnic's) is committed to working in the community, promoting racial harmony and understanding. Through extensive public consultation the group identified the need to renovate the Victorian shelters in Tunstall Memorial Gardens. The local community has chosen various, appropriate designs for two murals which will embellish the gardens.
The murals will provide focus for the community to work positively together, encouraging dialogue and establishing mutual respect and recognition. The theme of the project is “Remembrance”.
