Fairtrade
The Fairtrade Foundation is a UK registered charity which exists to ensure a better deal for marginalised third world producers.
The Fairtrade Foundation make sure farmers are given basic rights by offering fair and guaranteed prices and encouraging long-term trading commitments. This helps developing world producers to improve their businesses, perhaps pay for medical treatment, or invest in their children’s education. For example, independent small farmers growing coffee and cocoa and marketing their produce through a local co-operative, receive a fair price. The Fairtrade Mark certifies that goods from developing countries have been fairly traded.
Further information on the Fair Trade Foundation is available at http://www.fairtrade.org.uk

On 10 October 2002 the City Council unanimously approved a motion to support and adopt the principles of the Fairtrade Foundation and agreed that our Lord Mayor be a patron of the Stoke-on-Trent Fairtrade Group.
Fairtrade tea and coffee is now available from all our vending machines used by staff in the council.
We also serve Fairtrade tea and coffee in our staff canteen and for meetings.
