Taxis

To apply to become a taxi driver in Stoke-on-Trent you will need:

  • To complete a Disability Discrimination Course and a Local Knowledge Test. (£46.50)
  • You will then need to submit an application form (£170.00 this is for a 1 year licence), medical (subject to cost by GP surgery), Disclosure Barring Service and fee (£44.00 cheque/postal order made payable to the Disclosure Barring Service) to Licensing Services.

Your application will then be considered.

As from 01 November 2012 the application process to apply to become a taxi driver in Stoke-on-Trent is changing. From this date to apply you will need to have achieved a BTEC qualification in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving.  Click here for more information.

To apply for a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle Licence you will need:

  • To obtain a certificate of suitability from our testing station, complete an application form, obtain a valid insurance certificate and then pay the relevant fee to Licensing Services.

The current fee is £242.00.

Once you hold a valid licence with Licensing Services you will need to keep us informed any changes these include:

  • If you change address/name - the current fee is £10.50
  • if you change your operating base - the current fee is £10.50
  • Notify us within 72 hours in you have a vehicle accident
  • Notify us within 7 days if you are charged, cautioned, convicted of an offence.
