The Jet scheme helps people who are unemployed get back into work or start their own business. Although it is based in
the City Centre, JET operates outreach services in all communities across the city and offers work-based training specific
to the individuals needs. It also has an employer-facing job brokerage service, which provides recruitment support for local
businesses.
Jet is a partnership project and is only possible with the support of several organisations. The scheme is managed by Stoke-on-Trent
City Council Enterprise and Skills Team. It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund,
as well as the Coalfield Regeneration Trust (as part of the Family Employment Initiative) and the City Council . Other partners
include the Skills Funding Agency and JobCentre Plus.
One of the main priorities for the Jet is to reduce the number of unemployed people in North Staffordshire and
create a highly skilled, flexible local workforce that will contribute to a more diverse and competitive local economy. It
also aims to help people start their own sustainable businesses that will also contribute to local wealth.
This will ensure that the new opportunities, created by the regeneration of North Staffordshire, will be available to local
people by preparing them with the right skills and training. Jobs Enterprise and Training (Jet) is one innovative project
that will help to achieve this goal both for individuals and for businesses in North Staffordshire.
