The University Quarter is strategically important to the city of Stoke-on-Trent. It acts as a main gateway to the City Centre both from the mainline rail station and the A500 trunk road and hosts a large University Campus. However, the area has its challenges: it suffers from peak time traffic congestion at junctions – predominantly in the area of Leek Road, improved pedestrian links are required especially between University sites and much of the public realm is in need of enhancement to reflect the area’s gateway status.
Some major improvements are planned to the area so that it better meets the needs of all stakeholders, including the local
community and visitors to the City.
