2007-03-02 Go out of this world at City Learning Centres

Education in Stoke-on-Trent is on top of the world after taking delivery of the latest in hi-tech teaching aids delivered.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s two city learning centres are using teaching aids previously only available to major science organisations such as NASA and the European Space Agency.
The digital globes, known as magic planets, help children learn about how the Earth functions.
Sue Kuzubasoglu of the Haywood Learning Centre, said: “The globes really grab the children’s attention and allow teachers to show how the Earth’s systems actually work using three dimensional moving images.”
Children use the system to learn about environmental issues such as the weather and climate change.
The City Learning Centres at Haywood and Longton high schools also plan to adapt the technology for use in subjects such as literacy, art and history.
City Learning Centres are state of the art information technology centres open to the general public.
