Building Schools for the Future - BSF

The Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme aims to rebuild or renew all of England’s state secondary schools over a 15-year period. Stoke-on-Trent is a Wave 1 authority and is in the process of developing its secondary and special schools as part of this programme.

BSF Batch 1 works are nearly completed at both Birches Head and Sandon High Schools and Batch 2 works are being planned for the remainder of the secondary and special estate.

The vision for BSF in Stoke-on-Trent aims to:

  • rebuild or renew facilities for all secondary pupils;
  • provide flexible, inclusive spaces that offer opportunities for educational transformation;
  • develop learning spaces supported by innovative use of ICT;
  • enable applications of the 14-19 agenda, including personalised learning;
  • co-locate certain special schools and develop BESD provision;
  • develop extended schools across the city;
  • support workforce reform; and
  • provide high quality, safe and secure environments.

BSF Batch 2 works will be delivered in line with the plans for the reorganised secondary and special estate. A consultation on these plans is taking place in the Autumn 2007.
